2024 EMBROIDERY PROJECTS
Embroidery is a grounding art form that refines my ability to be in the present moment. It requires precise attention to detail without distraction and quite a lot of patience as I gradually make progress on my work. It’s definitely not the kind of craft that yields a finished piece in one sitting. However I believe it’s more gratifying this way, because it’s about dedicating my efforts, time and time again, to bring the vision that I have to life on my canvas, the fabric. I began learning embroidery several years ago, thanks to my mom who also enjoys this craft. It’s one of many ways that we like spending quality time together, working on our projects side by side and chatting about life.
This past year was amazing for my growth as an embroidery artist, gaining inspiration for unique designs and trying out new techniques to challenge myself. The timeframe of working on a piece ranged from just a few weeks to several months on-and-off. But everything in this post was hand embroidered with lots of love (and patience!). I even have a few pieces that I’m still working on that I’ll share with you once they’re finished. Cheers to taking more time to create more art in 2025!
Celestial Oversized Denim Jacket
I gave a new life to this thrifted oversized denim jacket by covering it with suns, moons and stars. There is also a sun and moon on either side of the collar. Now this jacket is a staple piece in my wardrobe! There’s something special about a piece of clothing that I made myself which makes me all the more excited to wear it out in the world!
Velvet Beaded Pouch
Mama and I collaborated on this piece, where we thrifted some navy velvet fabric and created a little pouch together. I embroidered all the pearls and beaded details plus the golden thread stars. Then Mama sewed the structure, added a lining inside, attached the zipper and voila! It holds my threads and other supplies for when I’m working on the latest embroidery piece.
Love Tokens
For Galentine’s Day, I decided to gift each of my friends a love token. To help manifest love in all its forms! After admiring for a long time the work of illustration and textile artist Millie Amber, who creates hand beaded fabric ornaments, I was inspired to create some of my own.
Cherry Denim Jacket
This jacket was a custom piece made for my friend who is a cherry lover! The back panel of the garment has cherries scattered all over, as well as on each cuff.
Chili Pepper Denim Jacket
The motif for my friend’s denim jacket is the Tunisian red chili pepper, a symbol of her culture that she can display proudly whenever she wears this piece!
Seashell Skirt
I embroidered the skirt of this matching set with seashells in a silver thread and added freshwater pearls. These details add a subtle visual interest to the otherwise plain maxi skirt, while still looking delicate and summery.
Fruit Denim Jacket
Lemons, strawberries, oranges and cherries are scattered all over this light wash denim jacket. This piece for me celebrates the sweetness and warmth of summer! It’s available on my Etsy shop HERE!
