A WEEKEND IN TAORMINA SICILY

Taormina is full of such picturesque details and scenery that truly embody the beauty of summer in Sicily. The scorching August sun makes the blue seas sparkle. Potted flowers and cascading vines adorn the iron balconies and facades of pastel buildings. Intricate sculptures painted in vibrant rainbow hues captivate each passerby of the city's many ceramic shops. And crowds dine all'aperto to eat the classic foods like arancini, spaghetti allo scoglio and granita con brioche. Here are some of the colors, landscapes and little moments I captured of this mesmerizing seaside town!

Villa Comunale di Taormina

This peaceful garden space has so much thriving plant life, unique brick and stone architecture, as well as sweeping views of the water below. It's the ideal quiet place to relax that's not too far from the city's main streets. Buildings in different shades of pink and cream sit on the cliffside as well, with cypresses scattered among the landscape.

Facades & Ceramics

Many residences and shopfronts have bright florals and greenery sprawling across every surface. While cactus plants and lush vines stretch toward the sun, the traditional Sicilian Moorish heads look out onto the street, as if watching the crowds go by.

Piazza IX Aprile

It's here in this checker-tiled square that gives a gorgeous view of the Ionian Sea. It's quite special at night, where lit-up yachts and sailboats float on the water off in the distance. Another highlight is the Chiesa di San Giuseppe, a Baroque-style church facing out to the piazza. The warm beige and faded rose hues perfectly match the colors of Taormina.

Taormina’s Quintessential Dessert

Since this island is known for unique sweets, it's an absolute must to treat yourself to an artisan granita con brioche at the famous Bam Bar! There is such a wide variety of refreshing flavors to choose from, and you can even combine two. How delicious does it sound to order strawberry and peach together?
