3 PLACES TO TRY THE BEST GELATO IN FLORENCE

When I think of desserts from Italy, I reminisce about where I have tried some of the best gelato in Florence. And my criteria for good gelato is simple. I want to taste authentic flavor achieved by a few top quality, natural ingredients. Fragola should taste like sweet strawberries in the peak of summer. Cioccolato fondente should have the same deep richness as a dark chocolate bar. Nocciola should be a luscious frozen form of hazelnut.

So I have narrowed down my list to 3 places to try the best gelato in Florence. Not only do they serve a multitude of classic, seasonal, and even experimental flavors. (Milk-based and also vegan-friendly options are available at all 3 places.) But they also welcome guests with such positivity when stepping inside the shop. The workers are eager to share their passion for their craft with others. And I can't wait for you to experience it all for yourself next time you're in Florence!

Where to have the Best Gelato in Florence

Sbrino Gelatificio Contadino

3 locations - Via de' Serragli 32R, Via Senese 1R, Piazza Gaddi 3R

Their gelato is 100% natural, using organic milk from a local farm in Tuscany. Pair your flavor with a brioche bun to eat it Sicilian style. Or you can even go with a refreshing granita, a smooth mix between a sorbet and slushy! Also, this place was where I first tried plum gelato. And it was the perfect summer flavor! Pictured below is a cone with strawberry and salted watermelon.

Gelateria La Sorbettiera

2 locations - Piazza Tasso 11R, Via Mazzetta 9A

Freshness and creativity shine in the gelato from this shop! In addition to popular flavors, you can find unique combinations such as lemon and sage, or fig and persimmon. This past summer was the first time visiting this place, and I already want to go back for more! However so far, I can say my favorite pair was plum and peach. Pictured below is a cone with plum and pistachio, and another cone with hazelnut.

Gelateria Perchè No!

Via dei Tavolini, 19r

This family business is located just a few streets away from Piazza della Signoria. (To enjoy your dessert with a breathtaking view nearby, check out my blog post about Florence views here.) They offer everything from fruit sorbets and creamy flavors, to granita and semifreddo (similar in texture to frozen mousse). Though I've seen one unique combination offered only here and nowhere else. The fior di latte with honey and sesame is a delicious mix of sweetness, toasted sesame seeds and a milky base. I would also recommend trying the mint, rose, and lavender flavors too! Pictured below on the left is mango and strawberry. And on the right is fior di latte with honey and sesame, and mulberry.
