MADRID SPAIN MINI TRAVEL GUIDE

One weekend in Madrid can give you a glimpse into Spain's spectacular city life, with so much to see, do and eat! And in summertime it feels especially lively, with locals and tourists alike wandering through the vibrant neighborhoods and breezy garden spaces. While traveling around Spain with my sister was an unforgettable summer getaway, we decided to make Madrid our final stop. How much beauty were we able to witness and how much delicious food did we eat in only a few days? Take a peek below to discover the sights and tastes that we discovered in Madrid...

A Photo Walk during a Weekend in Madrid

Palacio de Cristal

Located in El Retiro Park is this stunning 19th century glass conservatory. Since the structure is essentially a greenhouse, its first exhibition was a collection of exotic plants brought into Spain just for the event. Nowadays, the space holds various art shows. The abundance of lush trees make it a lovely area to stroll around with the sun shining down.

El Retiro Park - Parterre Garden

El Retiro Park is one of Madrid's biggest parks, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It provides a peaceful green escape, right in the city center. Numerous fountains, sculptures and walking paths create a wide open space for locals and visitors to walk around, relax or work out.

Museo Nacional del Prado

Another site close to El Retiro Park is the capital's famous art museum, the Prado. What originally began as an art collection of Spanish royalty in the 18th century, is now an impressive collection of various European artworks by masters such as Diego Velasquez, Francisco Goya and Hieronymus Bosch. Art history fans will be happy to find some iconic paintings on display such as Las Meninas, Saturn Devouring his Son and The Garden of Earthly Delights.
